What Would You Say If I Just Told You That I Ate My Own Arm and then My Dog?

Eating People?

Seriously…what would you say? You would probably think I have mental problems and call the nearest mental hospital. But in reality…how is this different. Okay I guess eating my OWN arm may mean that I am a bit mental…but what if I ate a friend’s arm. What if I went up to someone in Starbucks and just started chewing on their arms. Is it different than eating meat? Nope it is not. The only difference is that it is REALLY not accepted in our society. Obviously you know this. If human arms were prepackaged and put in the meat isle…it would be the same concept as eating a steak. Sure we are eating our own species but so do animals in factory farms. They are fed a nice little mix of all types of animal parts. Especially pigs. So in a nutshell…eating a person is not very different than eating a cow. Same organs, we have blood, we were once living, have emotions….Eat Me? NO!

If I ate my dog…I would be all over the news. But isnt that the same thing as raising a pig and eating it? Why is it that a dog will make the news but not a pig…or a cow..or a chicken. How did dogs get this label of being like a family member but the SECOND a pig is born, it is seen as bacon. This annoys me to no end.

I talk to a lot of 3 year olds. They see pigs as piggies…cows as cows…dogs as puppies…and chickens as birdies. They have not made that mental connection between the burger they eat and the cow sticker on their lunch boxes. Why can’t we see the animals as what they are without putting some sort of food label on them.

My dream in life is that this will happen. I hope that one day, all animals are brought into this world for the sole purpose of living. I hope that our farm animal population dramatically decreases. Not because they have all been killed but because less will be brought into this world…meaning less will be slaughtered…meaning less will have miserable unfair lives. And the ones that are born will live the life that they deserve.

Collapsible Water Bottle!? WHATCHU SAY!?!!?!?!

I came across this awesome article about a new water bottle! And it was on the same day that I was complaining about never having water when I am out of the house and thirsty. It is an Aquatina collapsible water bottle by a guy named Guy Jeremiah. I have not personally tried this yet, I don’t think it is in stores but I am eager to buy one! The bottle is PET and BPA free which means you can safely refill it and collapses to 30% of its size! The best part is that they run at about $7.70 which is a fair price considering its portability.

I love that with this water bottle I can successfully sneak in a drink to the movie theaters with my tiny purse! 🙂

But really, Guy Jeremiah loves water and wants to make water fountains more accessible to the public. I know that I rarely see clean, welcoming water fountains in public so I love this idea.

UPDATE: Antibiotics in Factory Farms

Just came across another article about the FDA’s interest in the amounts and types of antibiotics used on animals that are raised for food. This was written in the Wall Street Blogs Section. http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2010/06/28/fda-guidance-non-medical-antibiotic-use-in-animals-a-bad-idea/

I wonder why the FDA did not catch on sooner? In the article, it speaks of the worry that the widespread use of these antibiotics “fosters resistance in the microbes that afflict humans.” So basically now when little Sally gets an infection of some sorts…she is pretty much screwed because of all of the chicken nuggets she consumed throughout her life. On the other hand…Little Vegetarian Tommy hardly gets sick and when he does…responds well to antibiotics. 🙂 Just sayin!

So now YES we see that the antibiotics will be limited to…and I quote..”uses that prevent or treat animal illnesses.” So basically the antibiotics will still be used hmmm pretty much all the time.

Why?

  1. Invite 15 friends over.
  2. Spend a few days in a small closet
  3. Pee and Poo on the floor
  4. Then sleep in it
  5. Eat each other’s poo

OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO NEED ANTIBIOTICS TO “PREVENT” ILLNESSES…THE CONDITIONS ARE HORRIBLE!!!!!!!

On a positive note…if the antibiotics were lessened in terms of their use for growth…i guess that is a good thing. But how often are these factories checked…what happens if they are caught…is it a simple slap on the wrist? hmmmm

They Want to Limit the Antibiotics…

So I came across an article from The Associated Press about limiting the antibiotics in animals raised for their meat. Here is the link to the article…http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iVQH96KNBteFnAKXM5ahEYqUiOWQD9GKBLU00

They are basically saying in this article that the antibiotics that they pump into the animals may cause a health threat in the people who eat them. So now they say that the antibiotics being used should be monitored and administered by a Veterinarian. They speak of the danger that it causes for both humans AND THE animals. But first off, the amount of antibiotics used is just not needed if the factory farm industry wasnt so screwed up and heartless. They suggest that the antibiotics are only given when medically neccessary. But what is causing this necessity? Perhaps the filthy conditions that are created by the money hungry owners who do not care about the welfare of the animals? OR maybe they will convince whoever is in control of this that increasing the size of the animal is a “good medical reason.” I seriously wouldn’t put anything past this whole shady business.

But where is the “care” here..in the people or animals? They are FINALLY realizing that the crazy amount of antibiotics MAY NOT BE THE BEST THING TO INGEST. Children are devoloping differently because of these drugs…who knows of the long term effects…and for what cost? More money in the pockets of heartless factory owners who SLAUGHTER, KILL, ABUSE…lives. Lives of beings on this Earth who FEEL…CRY…and DIE for their GREED.treehugger.com

Favorite Vegan Pancakes from Favorite Cookbook :)

Vegan cooking is surprisingly cheap and easy. Of course I am not making any of these recipes up but once you connect well with a Vegan Cookbook…it is all easy from there 🙂 My favorite cookbook right now is “Vegan with a Vengeance” by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. I love this book because this woman is very talented but she plays it off like Vegan Cooking is a no-brainer and all of her recipes are made from ingredients that you probably already have in your house. SUCH AS these pancakes that were so very effortless. I included a picture and here is the recipe: They are amazing..my parents had them and didnt even comment on how they seemed Vegan..they were just downright good!

Pancakes:

  • 1 and 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbs canola oil
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 cup soy milk or more depending on how thin you like the batter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbs Pure Maple Syrub (I used agave syrup but whatever floats your boat)

Oil and preheat your skillet for about 2 minutes. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In separate bowl, combine all other ingredients. Adding wet ingredients to dry, mix until just combined.  Then cook the pancakes like you usually do and DONE!

Make them for a nice little sunday breakfast and add some fresh strawberries or berries and it is a great breakfast. For some protein I put some Natural Peanut Butter on them but that is just because I am addicted to Peanut Butter 🙂
